Leaping to relevance

THE LEAP2 INITIATIVE

This is an acronym for LEARNING, LEADERSHIP, ENTERPRISE, EXPERIENCE, APTITUDE, ATTITUDE, POSITIONING and PROMOTION.

The initiative is a model that is designed to identify, facilitate and encourage productive creativity in youths while at the same time ensuring that the fruits of the productive activities are fully harnessed to increase the countries human resource capital.

It focuses on helping to produce the “knowledge worker”. The information age in which we find ourselves has given birth to what is referred to as the new or knowledge economy and thus more than ever before the management of innovation and creativity has become imperative.

The leap2 initiative is an intangible intellectual property development and management model.

This model is a reverse recruitment strategy that is designed to bring young people in contact with potential employees, financiers, mentors etc who are seeking a special breed of human capital that can use 20% of there resources to produce 80% positive results.

Another aspect of this scheme is the management of the lucrative ideas generated by the target source (youths). Now more than ever before, idea management and development is becoming more and more central to the sustainace of the emergent new economy in Nigeria. The value of intangible intellectual property such as innovative ideas, concepts and business methods and the need to give it legal protection is central and has already kicked off in America and parts of Europe with the patenting (registration for legal protection) of such intangibles.

It is clear that the creation of strategic business ideas, innovative and inventive practices has become a highly sought after attribute by top management in global enterprises, people who by virtue of there mentality, background and orientation, bring such a mindset and discipline into the workplace will have a greater advantage than people who simply wait for the enterprise to teach them everything the search for the knowledge worker has begun.

How does the leap2 model create the knowledge worker?

The model is built around 8 (eight) elements/principles of personal development and 1 (one) strategy for empowerment and the elements shall be treated first:

· Each element is embedded in the LEAP2 name which is actually an acronym for;

Learning: Self-learning* is now an important requirement in most organizations and it determines to a large extent how quickly an individual grows into his core competencies and skills.

Leadership: is borne out of a natural tendency towards following through your vision with focus and determination, when you know where you are going, other people tend to want to follow you there.

Enterprise: the ability to think like an entrepreneur and use initiative to create solutions for value out of problems.

Experience: to gain experience which is valuable to your development you have to find the right kind of mentor and present yourself as a worthy steward the emphasis being on find .

Aptitude: a natural/supernatural ability/gift and interest in a particular field or with regards to a particular skill that marks one out if discovered.

Attitude: this determines to a large extent whether you will be able to work successfully with other people and bring value into a group.

Positioning; the ability to network, creating strategic and value driven interrelationships horizontally and vertically such that you are able to increase your portfolio of opportunities.

Promotion: this is the outcome of integrating all the other elements into positive action and making this body of principles a lifestyle.

The aims of the leap2 model

Micro aims.

· The aims and objectives of the leap2 to facilitate and encourage a self learning mentality
amongst youths.

· To explore the full potential of creative ideas and to inculcate the creative mentality.

· To encourage the personal research culture amongst youths.

· To identify and fill the specific needs of enterprises with regards to human resource search
and selections targets and create employment opportunities for youths.

· To build value networks between youths and potential investors, mentors and employees.

· To help youths find there core skills and competencies and properly align it with their faith
base.

· To promote reverse recruitment where the graduate has a choice of work environments to
choose from.

Macro aims.

· To create a cadre of leaders professionals and entrepreneurs with the right skills and
mentality to fully convert Nigerians potential to prosperity.

· To empower economically and spiritually the youths in Nigeria and fully harness the vast
knowledge pool that God has made available to them for the achievement of great things.
